I had my one hour glucose test on Tuesday and got the call from my midwife this morning saying that my level was 145, while normal is less than 130.
So, not exactly what I was hoping to hear.
I have my three hour test at 8am on Monday morning since she wanted to get it done as soon as possible. My understanding is that the rush isn't so much because my numbers were especially frightening, but because I waited so long to get the test done due to our vacation. Since I'll be 30 weeks next Tuesday, I understand that they want to get a definitive answer.
So, this weekend will be a carb-filled fiasco. Having never been required to carb-load before, I'm going to use the next few days to get all my doughy desires out of the way in case Monday's test shows I do have Gestational Diabetes.
I hadn't really considered GD as a possibility. My family doesn't have a history of Diabetes, Gestational or otherwise. I'm young, I was overweight when I conceived but not obese, and I've never had an abnormal blood sugar result in my life.
We have a history of pre-eclampsia and hypertension, so I was more expecting that to be the thing that bit me in the ass. But so far, my bp has been a gorgeous 118/69.
If I DO have GD, I don't think it will freak me out too terribly much. I've seen a few friends navigate their third trimester with GD, and D eats pretty low-carb anyway. So it shouldn't take too much tweaking on my part to make this diet plan work for both of us.
It's the finger-pricking that's going to make me sweat bullets.
