I thought about saving this post until tomorrow, but since I tolerate bed rest even worse than I expected, I'm going to write it up today and I'll add on tomorrow night.
Yesterday at work, I started noticing a lot of... what's the word, tightening? I didn't think much of it at the time and chalked it up to minor bloating and kept on working.
Later on in the afternoon, I felt a rush of fluid in my pants as I walked in the backroom. This wasn't the first time that's happened though , just two days earlier I had convinced myself I had peed my pants for the first time since childhood. Yay pregnancy, right? Again, I wasn't too worried about it and finished out my day by 4:00.
I was waiting around until 5:00 so I could meet a woman I had met on craigslist who was selling some used baby items when I started to get concerned. The tightening was feeling rhythmic now that I wasn't up and walking around. I tried calling the on-call midwife and couldn't get a hold of anyone (which I'm pretty sure defeats the purpose) so to be safe, I stopped by the medical center before going home.
After possibly the worst pelvic exam of my life (acrylic nails and cervixes do NOT mix my friends) I waited for results to get back from the lab. The ph test was inconclusive after they tried twice, so they took a sample and sent it downstairs instead. The results were positive for amniotic fluid, but the nurse told me that they often get false positives, so they didn't trust the results. I'm not sure why they bothered running it if they don't trust the results, but anyway..
I was hooked up to a fetal monitor for five hours and given IV fluids because I was a little dehydrate. They also ran a cbc and sent in a technician to perform an ultrasound. I asked how everything was looking and she said, "I think you have enough fluid" Which obviously wasn't very reassuring. They called the OB on call and he said that my levels were within normal range, but put me on pelvic rest until tomorrow when I will go back into the hospital for another AFI and NST.
I'll update this when I find out more. For now, I'm watching Netflix and trying not spend our whole paycheck on Etsy.

Update 7/14/2014
I went back in this morning and got checked in with L&D. The tests were very quick this time since they just needed to compare the results they compiled on Saturday. They thought the pH/Nitrazine tests would be a waste of time, so instead they did an AFI and another NST. Baby J was reactive and healthy sounding, and my fluid levels haven't changed at all!
We were very happy to hear that everything is looking okay. They're going to continue to monitor over the next few weeks at my Midwife appointments, but for now I'm free to go back to normal activity! Woohoo!
